Joshlin Smith: As the search goes on, police purport to locate

On February 19, Joshlin Smith was last seen

Police reported that blood-stained clothing was discovered the day after National Police Minister Bheki Cele visited the Saldanha Bay region and promised locals that no resources would be spared until Joshlin Smith was located missing.
Her mother last saw her when she left her with her boyfriend so she could go to work.

Western Cape police announced on Sunday that they had increased the scope of their search for Joshlin by sending search and rescue dogs as well as drone operators to the region.

During random searches on an open field late last night, clothing fragments purportedly stained with blood were found there, according to Western Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie.

He added that as part of an ongoing investigation, the investigation team arrived at the location where the articles of clothes were found.

"Our forensic laboratory will receive the clothing for analysis."

It's still being searched, Pojie said.

There have been no arrests made.

Cele met on Saturday with the Joshlin family and the people who live in Saldanha Bay.

In the midst of finger-pointing and the dissemination of misleading information on the South African Police Service's (SAPS) investigation into Joshlin's disappearance, Minister Cele urged "cool heads" to prevail during the community meeting.

"You are a community that has come together through difficult times; don't let people who are attempting to use the abduction of a little child for political gain to drive a wedge between you.

"Come together and support the police in their efforts to get her back home. As for the police, they haven't stopped their search and have been given orders to collaborate more closely with anyone who provides important information that could be helpful.
